Since the CES 2025 expo is starting on January 7, we expect Samsung to unveil new monitors, home appliances, soundbars, and TVs. Some of its upcoming monitors could feature QD-OLED panels with the Video Electronics Standards Association's (VESA) new ClearMR 21000 certification for reduced motion blur.

Samsung could showcase new QD-OLED monitors with ClearMR 21000 at CES 2025

VESA has just published details about its two new certifications: VESA ClearMR 21000 and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000. The VESA ClearMR 21000 certification is for ultra-high-refresh rate monitors typically targeted towards PC gamers. The company's new monitors will also likely feature DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20).

The Clear Motion Ratio is a numerical value that is defined as the ratio of clear pixels to blurry pixels as a percentage. It determines how well a display can handle fast-moving images, which is typically encountered during high-frame-rate gaming.

Samsung could unveil 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9 ultrawide Odyssey-series gaming monitors during the CES 2025 expo that will be held in Las Vegas, USA, from January 7 to January 11. Some of those Odyssey gaming monitors could use QLED screens, while others could use QD-OLED panels.

VESA's new DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification is offered to monitors with emissive displays (such as OLED) with perfect blacks and brightness that can reach as high as 1,000 nits. However, it isn't clear what are the metrics for sustained brightness to achieve the DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification.

Hojung Lee, Head of Samsung Display's Mobile Display Product Planning Team, said, “Samsung Display is committed to delivering the best possible OLED and QD-OLED displays to our customers. To enable this, we are working closely with VESA to certify and establish new standards, including DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 and ClearMR 21000.

Other gaming monitor brands that use Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels could also announce their new models with ClearMR 21000 and DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certifications. LG could also unveil gaming monitors with LG Display's WOLED panels and VESA's new display certifications.
