Samsung has been launching foldable phones for over five years. As usual, Apple is quite late. While it has reportedly tested foldable phones for years, it has yet to launch a foldable iPhone. Despite some rumors, Apple won't challenge the Galaxy Z Flip 7 this year with its first foldable device.

First foldable iPhone won't challenge Galaxy Z Flip 7 in 2025

Ming-Chi Kuo, a revered market analyst, claims in their report that Apple's first foldable iPhone is currently in the planning stage. Some publications earlier incorrectly reported that the foldable iPhone will launch later this year, but that won't be the case.

So, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which Samsung plans to launch in the second half of this year, won't face competition from Apple. And that might be a good thing for Samsung, as the company isn't hoping to sell a lot of foldable phones this year, at least according to a report.

The report claims that the first foldable iPhone will only have an eSIM, like the “iPhone 17 Air,” which will reportedly launch later this year. Previous reports claimed that Samsung Display will supply the foldable OLED panel to Apple for the foldable iPhone.

Another analyst, Jeff Pu, believes that the first foldable iPhone from Apple will be launched in the second half of 2026. The Information and The Wall Street Journal claim that Apple will launch a foldable iPhone next year.

So, we are seeing a trend here. Samsung needs to bring significant improvements with the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Hopefully, by 2026, Samsung will be able to solve major issues related to foldable phones, including durability, battery life, and camera quality.

What can you expect from Galaxy Z Flip 7?

Previous reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will use a new OLED technology for improved power efficiency. It will reportedly have a 6.85-inch foldable screen on the inside and a 4-inch cover screen on the outside.

The phone could also get a dedicated telephoto camera and have a body that is as thin as regular phones when folded. Samsung could equip the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with the 3nm Exynos 2500 chip. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will likely run One UI 7.1.1 out of the box.
