Galaxy S24+ resolution upgrade makes its display sharper than S24 Ultra

Samsung has upgraded the Galaxy S24 series displays in more than one way, but of the three flagship variants, the Galaxy S24+ variant makes the furthest on-generation leap by far.

Across the entire series, the new Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays — featuring LTPO / HOP backplanes — offer faster touch response times and maximum brightness levels of 2,600 nits.

The new Samsung flagships for 2024 also boast improved Vision Booster technology and a brand-new feature called Adaptive Color Tone. And for the first time, the base and Plus models get an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, up from 48-120Hz.

However, while the Galaxy S24 and S24 Ultra display resolutions remain nearly the same, the Galaxy S24+ is this year's model to benefit from the biggest resolution upgrade.

Galaxy S24+ now matches the Ultra's display resolution

The base Galaxy S24 has the same display resolution of 2340 x 1080 as the Galaxy S23. And thanks to thinner bezels and a slight change in aspect ratio, the Galaxy S24 Ultra display offers a marginally higher pixel count than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, clocking in at 3120 x 1440 pixels instead of 3088 x 1440.

But the Galaxy S24+ gets the real upgrade here. The 2024 model now boasts a resolution of 3120 x 1440, matching the S24 Ultra and leaving the Galaxy S23+ in the dust. The 2023 model has an FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080, but the latest flagship embraces QHD.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S24+ has a slightly larger 6.7-inch display than the 6.6-inch panel on the Galaxy S23+.

Galaxy S24+ display is technically crisper

Here's an interesting side-effect of this upgrade. The higher resolution of the Galaxy S24+ means it offers a crisper image quality even compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Galaxy S24+ must cram all those pixels in a smaller display area of 6.7 inches compared to the Ultra's 6.8 inches. And because the Plus matches the Ultra's resolution, its panel has the highest pixel density.

The S24+ screen tops 516 pixels per inch, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has 505ppi. It's not a huge difference, and you probably won't notice it with the naked eye. Nevertheless, technically speaking, the Dynamic AMOLEd 2X display of the Galaxy S24+ is the crispest.

You can pre-order the Galaxy S24 series now, ahead of the official January 31 release date, and benefit from free memory upgrades and other bonuses (market-dependent).
