It's raining updates today for a boatload of Galaxy devices. Several flagship Samsung smartphones have received the December 2024 security update this week, and a mid-range one has now been added to the list.

The Galaxy A54 is picking up the December update in the USA. The update is available for some carrier-locked units. We're now in the second half of December, so we will hopefully see Samsung bringing the update to other markets soon.

According to the changelog, you only get security enhancements with this update. The December 2024 security patch fixes vulnerabilities in Android, One UI, and select Exynos chips (including the Exynos 1380 that powers the A54). More details on the patch can be found here.

In a couple of months, the Galaxy A54 could be getting the Android 15 and One UI 7.0 update. It will be the second of four major OS upgrades that the phone is eligible for. One UI 7.0 will first be released for flagship devices like the Galaxy S23, following its proper official debut on the Galaxy S25 series early next year.

To download the latest update on your Galaxy A54, open the Settings app, scroll down and tap Software update, then hit the Download and install button. Do that a couple of times or check a few hours later if the update doesn't immediately show up. You will also find the latest Galaxy A54 firmware in the SamMobile firmware library.
