Samsung has announced that Bespoke AI Steam, its flagship robot vacuum cleaner, has received the ‘Privacy by Design (PbD)' certification in South Korea. It is the first robot vacuum cleaner to get that certification in South Korea, which attests to its privacy measures.

Bespoke AI Steam gets Privacy by Design (PbD) certification

The Bespoke AI Steam has received the Privacy by Design (PbD) certification from the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).

This certification is awarded to devices that prevent a user's personal information from leaking by incorporating security measures throughout the product's entire lifecycle, including planning, manufacturing, and disposal.

PIPC and KISA started awarding these privacy certifications to home security cameras last year. This year, they added four more device categories, including robot vacuum cleaners with cameras, to the list.

The certification takes into account 71 elements across four areas:

  1. Basic requirements for personal information processing and protection (14 items)
  2. Legality of personal information processing (28 items)
  3. Strengthening information security and privacy (22 items)
  4. Organizational protection measures (7 items)

Through Knox, the Bespoke AI Steam uses end-to-end encryption to secure all aspects of a user's personal information, including images and videos captured using its onboard camera.

Moon Jong-seung, VP of Samsung Electronics's Digital Appliance (DA) division, said, “Bespoke AI Steam is a product that strongly protects users’ personal information through Samsung’s exclusive security solution, Samsung Knox. We will continue to prioritize personal information protection and strive to strengthen security so that consumers can use Samsung AI appliances with greater peace of mind .
