Samsung's new Galaxy S25 Ultra flagship phone has a fresh look. And thanks to a few clever design cues — such as the flat frame and thinner bezels — the 2025 model paradoxically has a larger screen than the Galaxy S24 Ultra despite being smaller on all sides.
Oddly enough, Samsung's official spec sheet, revealed today, doesn't seem to tell the correct story. We had to discover some of the Galaxy S25 Ultra's design qualities and quirks ourselves during our hands-on time with the device at Unpacked.
Samsung says the Galaxy S25 Ultra is equipped with a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, whereas the S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch panel. That's all well and good, but the company also says the Galaxy S25 Ultra is 162.8mm tall, whereas the S24 Ultra has a height of 162.3mm. And something here doesn't add up.
As you can see if you watch our hands-on video below, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is visibly shorter than the 2024 model. It's not by much, but it is noticeable side-by-side. The spec sheet may say otherwise, but we can confirm that the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a smaller device than the S24 Ultra in terms of width, girth, and height, all the while boasting a slightly bigger screen.
For what it's worth, Samsung says the Galaxy S25 Ultra measures 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra clocks in at 162.3 x 79 x 8.6mm.
These on-paper numbers aside, the Galaxy S25 Ultra does feel better in the hand. It's easier and more comfortable to hold than the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and it feels lighter too, because it is. The Galaxy S25 Ultra tips the scales at 218 grams, down from the S24 Ultra's 232 grams.
